Severinstorburg

A medieval city gate with an asymmetric hexagonal tower. The starting point of the Carnival parade.

The Severinstorburg is one of the four surviving gates of the medieval city wall. Built in the 13th century, it was the southern entrance to the city, and the English princess Isabella was received here in 1235. By tradition, Cologne's Rose Monday parade starts through this gate into the Old Town.
